Fire!

This afternoon, when I was reading in my room, I heard my sister call out, " Come see, Sporty Katie! There is a fire outside!" I was so excited and stressed.

Then our whole family went out to gaze at the amazing site.  It was kind of scary because we saw the fire getting really close to some houses. I was terrified by the thought that the fire could burn our house down!

Luckily, we had a lot of firefighters fighting to get the fire out! Sometimes the fire was really close and sometimes it got bigger.

We were almost going to go to our friends' house in Tarzana, but then we watched the news and saw that the fire had calmed down a little bit. We had already packed all our bags just in case we had to leave.

This was the view from my house. It was really really scary!

Did you see the fire?

As Long as there Are Mountains

As you know, I love reading! Or if you didn't know, now you know ;)

Anyway, I am reading a fabulous book titled , " As Long As There Are Mountains" by Kinsey-Warnock. I love this book because it is from the point of view of a girl that so far seems to be exactly like me. For Instance,  she does not like wearing dresses and neither do I.

This book is about a 13 years old girl who has grown up farming and dreams of keeping care of it when she grows up. However, her brother Lucien completely disagrees...

What book are you reading?
Do you recommend it?
Try to convince me to read it!

A Bunch of Active Student Bloggers!

This year has been a year where we incorporated a lot of blogging into. Some outstanding writers got their own blog.

For example, I got my own blog. A bunch of other students in my class got their own blog too. In our blogs, we like to post interesting things we have discovered,  something fun we did over a vacation or weekend,  your first experience in doing something, a piece of writing you are proud of and many other subjects.

In our class of 2015-2016, we have  Mitochandria,  Smiley, Pascal, Gymnastics, Sophie Reads, XavierParker, and Soccer Girl that own their own blog.

They are all almost weekly posting and they are great role models for me. I do my best to post as much as possible.

Open House 2016!

This year, has been a year where I learned numerous things I would have never learned without being with Mrs. Yollis. Our class was so proud of all of our achievements this year that we decided we would put all put all our wonderful projects up. We had done so many that our class was full!

We were afraid that at Open House, students would forget to show parents everything we have done, so we made a list including all our creative projects.

I loved all the projects we did this year, however I especially liked our Biographical dioramas and  our turkey characters.

During Open House,  my favorite stations were the Ivan Station where you compared your arm span to a Gorilla's and the Green Screen Booth where you took a picture with your family and you picked your favorite project and then it made it seem as if my family were in that project.

We had numerous stations including, the Ivan station, Our Gorilla Reports, Badger Claws Journals, Origami Stars, Green Screen Booth, I Would Love To Be a... Poetry, Animal Masc,  Polygon People,  Charlotte's Web Collaborative Slideshow, Paper Portfolios, Digital Portfolios, Absurd Alliteration,  Vowel Consonant Fractions, and finally Symmetry.

Our Origami Stars was a project organized by Karissa and Abby's moms. It took a while to do it and sometimes we messed up, but that's o.k, we tried again and at the end they look magnificent!

I would love to Be A... Poetry was a poetry lesson taught by Mrs. Werve (Lily). You imagined what animal you would want to be, then you wrote a poem about why you would like to be that animal. I chose to be a Grizzly Bear.

Our Animal Masc  we made with our journeys buddies. Each pair of buddies was assigned a letter, then you and your buddy chose what animal you liked the best that would start with that letter. For Instance, my buddy and I were assigned the letter M. We hesitated between mouse and monkey but we finally decided monkey. After that, the big buddy chose a fact about that animal and the journeys buddies sounded out M. Lastly, Mrs. Yollis filmed it and we made it into a movie! We were showing the movie with the projector during Open House.

What was your favorite part of Open House?

New Digital Portfolios

We have done so many incredible project this year that our class decided we had to make digital portfolios in order to keep track of all the projects we have done this year!

In this e-portfolio, we post things like our Charlotte's Web collaborative slideshow. Not only do we insert the slideshow but we even add a reflection. A reflection is  an idea about something, especially one that is written down or expressed.

In this case, we used a reflection to help readers understand more about it, and to even help us remember these fabulous projects when we look back at it when we are older.

A digital portfolio is also made if you have no more space in your  binder, you put it in a e-portfolio ;)

Have you ever created a digital portfolio?
What kinds of things did you post on there?
Would you wish to have one?
Do you prefer to put it in a binder?

Jumping into the water!

For Mother's Day, my family went to go on a hiking trail. When you reached the end of the trail, there was a big lake. It was super hot, so we decided we could go jump into the water from high rocks!

The rocks were so high that when I got there,  I didn't want to jump anymore! I learned that the more you hesitated, the more you would become scared, so I jumped right into it without hesitating.

What did you do for Mother's Day?

Charlotte's Web in French!

Last month, our class read a fabulous book titled Charlotte's Web. It is a fantasy story about a spider named Charlotte and a cute pig named Wilbur.

Charlotte's Web is a classic book for 3rd graders to read and it is very humerus so 3rd graders love it

Last week, my mom revealed that when she was in third grade, in France, she read the exact same book just in french!

I thought that was very funny, so I asked her if she could lend the book to me so that I could share it with the class. Unfortunately,  she told me that her book was at her mom/my grandma's house. Luckily last Wednesday we went to France I actually went too my grandma's house and to my delight, my cousin Felicie was there and my grandma had given it to her. Because Felicie is so nice and likes to make people happy,  she gave it  to me!

Have you ever read Charlotte's Web?

                                                    Did you like it? Why?

Have you ever read a book in another language?
